He then studied in Munich, Germany at the Royal Academy of Fine Art with Carl von Marr, and in Paris at the Academie Julian with Jules Lefebvre, Robert Fleury, and H Zugel, famous animal painter. Returning to San Francisco, Greenbaum estabished a career as a portrait painter of prominent persons, and also painted images of the Chinese fisher folk in Monterey.
