One of the pioneer modernist working in the South during the mid 20th century, Paul Ninas was a landscape painter who loved exotic venues such as the tropics. He took his formal art training at the Vienna Royal Academy and Beaux Arts in Paris and traveled extensively in his youth. In 1930, he purchased a coconut farm on the Island of Dominica in the West Indies and created a highly colorful series of landscapes from his surroundings. One of the pioneer modernist working in the South during the mid 20th century, Paul Ninas was a landscape painter who loved exotic venues such as the tropics. He took his formal art training at the Vienna Royal Academy and Beaux Arts in Paris and traveled extensively in his youth. In 1930, he purchased a coconut farm on the Island of Dominica in the West Indies and created a highly colorful series of landscapes from his surroundings. Many of these paintings were exhibited in New York City. In 1932, he moved to New Orleans, where he became a popular teacher and artist.
