He was strongly influenced his student in landscape drawing at the Dresden Art Academy (from 1859) and especially in his graphic and illustrative work from that. After 1861, the studio Julius Huebner specialist history painting. A stay in Italy 1866/67 hardly influenced his work artistically. In his brief, rich in personal suffering life, Venus created a few oil paintings, of which "distributing Saint Elizabeth, alms" history painting in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden can be considered his masterpiece.
