Charles Nett was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 17, 1917. His early love of the West developed from tales of his grandparents, who had homesteaded in South Dakota. While pursuing this interest through early drawings of Indians and horses, he discovered his natural talent as an artist. Mr. Nett first formally studied art at the John Herron Art School, Indianapolis; and was later awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago.
