Ernst Bursche was born in Germany in 1907. Bursche made a career as a painter and graphic artist. Bursche was sponsored by Bautzen teacher Paul Jänichen. He held an apprenticeship as a lithographer from 1922 where he made his first woodcuts, and from 1927-29 attended the Dresden Applied Arts Academy with Arno Drescher. In 1929 Bursche began studying at the Dresden Art Academy with Richard Müller and then from 1930 was a master student of Otto Dix, member of the ASSO and the Dresden Secession... Read full biography

He held an apprenticeship as a lithographer from 1922 where he made his first woodcuts, and from 1927-29 attended the Dresden Applied Arts Academy with Arno Drescher. After the National Socialists came to power, Ernst Bursche was expelled from the academy and was temporarily arrested due to his communist attitude and the classification of his works as "degenerate"....
