Frederick Hutchison, born in Montreal in 1871, studied under William Brymmer (1855-1925) at the Art Association of Montreal, then in Paris under Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens. Frederick William Hutchison (1871-1953). Frederick Hutchison, born in Montreal in 1871, studied under William Brymmer (1855-1925) at the Art Association of Montreal, then in Paris under Benjamin Constant and Jean-Paul Laurens. After further studies at the Art Students League under William Merritt Chase in 1910, Hutchison painted landscapes in a more impressionistic technique. Hutchison went to Europe in 1928 and met his friend Clarence Gagnon who was living in Paris at the time - and they then subsequently toured Europe together for the year (with their partners). He did not paint much while in Europe. He stated that he did not "connect" with the scenery there. (Information provided by Peter J. Hutchison, grand nephew of the artist).... Read full biography
