Schade apprenticed as an offset retoucher from 1965-67 while attending the Evening Academy of the Academy of Visual Arts (HGB) Leipzig. He then studied at the HGB Leipzig from 1967-72 with Fritz Fröhlich, Hans Mayer-Foreyt, and Gerhard Brose.
