He was the son of the portrait painter Hans Peter Feddersen the Elder; his cousin was the painter Auguste Margarethe Feddersen . He studied at the art academies in Düsseldorf with Oswald Achenbach from 1866 to 1871 and from 1871 in Weimar with Theodor Hagen, whom he had followed from Düsseldorf to Weimar.... He was the son of the portrait painter Hans Peter Feddersen the Elder; his cousin was the painter Auguste Margarethe Feddersen . Study trips took him to Sylt, Masuria and Rügen. He temporarily settled in Bad Kreuznach.
