Of particular importance is the interplay between Empoli's elongated, elegant figures, typical of his mature work, and his completely new, naturalistic conception of landscape. Empoli is considered to be the most important reformer of Mannerism and was one of the painters who promoted a move towards the Baroque in Florentine painting.
