Kazimierz Sichulski was born in 1879 in Lviv. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under J. Mehoffer, L. Wyczólkowski and S. Wyspianski. While still a student, he traveled around Europe for a long time. He was in Italy, Paris and Vienna. In 1904, together with F. Pautsch and W. Jarocki, he left for the Hutsul region for the first time. From then on, for years, the main theme of his paintings was genre scenes showing the picturesque Hutsul costumes, customs and rituals.
