He attended school in Hamburg. In 1898 he lived in an apartment in his parents' house on the Falkenstein on the Elbe. In 1898-99 he took painting lessons with Georg Burmester in Kiel and in 1900 in Hamburg he studied under Ernst Eitner at the art school. He then went to Munich in 1901, where he studied at the...
