He attended the Boston School of Painting and the Child-Walker School of Art in Boston, and studied with Howard Smith and William Frederick Foster, both former pupils of Howard Pyle. Parsons did innumerable covers and illustrations for 4-H Horizons, National Sportsman, Hunting and Fishing, Outdoors and other sportsman publications. Parsons did innumerable covers and illustrations for 4-H Horizons, National Sportsman, Hunting and Fishing, Outdoors and other sportsman publications. He did several covers for Youth's Companion including their very last cover. He illustrated numerous books and magazines including Yankee and the cover of the 1972 L. L. Bean Catalog.
