After his childhood in Esslingen, in 1929 Böhringer began his studies at the Württemberg State School of Applied Arts in Stuttgart with Ernst Schneider. After his childhood in Esslingen, in 1929 Böhringer began his studies at the Württemberg State School of Applied Arts in Stuttgart with Ernst Schneider. In 1930 he moved to the Academy and continued his studies with Hans Spiegel. During the period of National Socialism, he was banned from working and exhibiting. Secretly he painted in his parents' house until a serious illness forced him to stay in a sanatorium for many years.
