She attended the Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine, Texas (1928-31), receiving a bachelor of science in art. In addition, she studied at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center and at the Arts Students League of New York under Reginald Marsh. At the Dallas art Institute, she was a student under Olin Travis and studied under Henry Varnum Poor and Arnold Blanch. Landers worked for the Dallas Public Library where she established the audiovisual department in 1942.
