Brenda J. Murphy is a native of Texas and grew up fascinated by horses. She began drawing horses at an early age and later gravitated toward art professionally. After earning a BFA at the University of Texas at Arlington, she worked for the next 15 years as a graphic designer and illustrator in Dallas. After earning a BFA at the University of Texas at Arlington, she worked for the next 15 years as a graphic designer and illustrator in Dallas. The artist eventually returned to Arlington, where she maintains a studio today. Murphy is able to achieve startling real effects working in the difficult medium of graphite. "I especially enjoy working in graphite pencil," she says. "It is a challenge to interpret tones, values, shapes, and textures of a subject that I might overlook if I worked in another medium."
