Stuart believes that seeds reflect the cycles of life and death. She is essentially self taught and has worked in everything from earth pieces to monumental pieces of paper sculpture. In 1979, she arranged 3200 boulders for her earthwork "Stone Alignments/Solstice Cairns, and in the 1980s made encaustic grids. She was raised as an only child in Los Angeles by a Swiss mother and an Australian father, who often drove her into the desert for family outings.
