Alfred Desire Lanson was born in 1851. Lanson was a pupil of the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris. Lanson exhibited in the Paris Salon from 1870 until his death in 1958. His talent was recognised in his own time, with a third class medal in 1876, a second class medal in 1879 and a first class medal in 1880.
