He traveled to London, Florence, and Rome, where he met his fellow artists Markus Lüpertz, Michael Schönholz and Ansgar Nierhoff. In 1977, Willikens was a professor at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim, followed by a professorship for painting and printmaking at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig. Since 1999, Willikens was a professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, and held the presidency there from 1999-2004.... Read full biography
