His work was mainly influenced by the artists Böcklin, Feuerbach and Thoma. He focused for four decades on the personality of the poet Stefan George. In 1943 his Berlin studio was bombed and his life's work lost. Then he settled in Schneverdingen, in the Lüneburger Heide, and dedicated himself to religious subjects and allegories. (vwe)
