The Viennese painter Cecil van Haanen was born in 1844. He studied at the resident Academy of Fine Arts, followed by a year at the academy in Karlsruhe. He then spent another six years at the academy in Antwerp. In London, Cecil van Haanen worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines for six months. From 1873 on, he mainly lived in Venice. Today, his works can be found in major art collections, such as the Albertina and the Gallery Belvedere in Vienna. The artist passed away in 1914.... Read full biography
