Known mostly for his landscapes, Charles C. Summey was born September 11, 1936 at Seligman, Missouri and reared in Rogers, Arkansas. While in high school, he painted murals for churches in Rogers and Fayetteville. He next studied landscape painting under Glenn Swedlun at Eureka Springs, AR. Upon completion of this instruction he studied for one year at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), where a number of his paintings won awards. Upon completion of this instruction he studied for one year at the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), where a number of his paintings won awards. One of those paintings, a landscape, was acquired by the Wichita Art Museum. After study at the KCAI, Summey entered the US army and served in Korea.
