Mostly, it included the second generation of expressionist artists, as well as artists from the New Objectivity. The art historian Rainer Zimmermann coined the term of 'expressive realism', which described some of them. The artists of the 'lost generation', in fact, had no unified style, but worked both in the expressive and realistic, as well as in the representational and abstract manner.
