Eugenio Hermoso was a Spanish artist who studied at the School of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville and later at the School of San Fernando in Madrid. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, coming into contact with the avant-garde and admiring the portraits of Egyptian sarcophagi from the Roman period. He settled in Madrid in 1918 and became a regular at the Nuevo Levante and Maisón Doré cafes, where he mingled with intellectuals and artists. He held his first major exhibition... He traveled extensively throughout Europe, coming into contact with the avant-garde and admiring the portraits of Egyptian sarcophagi from the Roman period. He settled in Madrid in 1918 and became a regular at the Nuevo Levante and Maisón Doré cafes, where he mingled with intellectuals and artists. He held his first major exhibition in 1922 at the Museum of Modern Art in Madrid and was appointed academician at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in 1941.
