Wakita was born in Tokyo and has exhibited in the Venice Biennial, the Carnegie International Exhibition, and the Sao Paulo Biennale. He won the Japanese award for painting in the Guggenheim International Exhibition in 1955. The same year he received first prize in the Tokyo Mainichi International competition. He is known for his oil paintings, watercolors and lithographs.
