He later moved to Madrid in 1854 with the intention of working as a court painter, and submitted a proposal to Isabel II to create a wide pictorial series that included the different festivals, fairs and pilgrimages that were celebrated in Spain. Although he was unable to complete the project, he carried out several works that became part of the royal collection.
