Some of these images glide smoothly into the Norwegian landscape painting tradition, but the best lies between the landscape and pure abstraction. The first thing to note is that there is considerable sensuality in the pigment - he has also used a number of different techniques to achieve a physical presence that will make us sense painting as painting. But at some distance the surface can illuminate a landscape. We have both mountains, sea and horizon, ie the whole landscape and no more fragments, like Sitter and Rumohr.S. 442.
