His most well known lithographs were of Civil War scenes which later afforded him the opportunity to paint the life portraits of the Generals made famous in that war. For a brief period in the 1850s (1850 or 1851) Kramer was also associated with Lewis N. Rosenthal, another Philadelphia lithographer.
