Rudolf Alfred Höger was born in Proßnitz in 1877. During World War I he was probably a member of the art group of the ‘k.u.k. Kriegspressequartiers’ (KPQ), whose task was to document the respective scenes of the war. Paintings of this early period are mostly presented in the Military History Museum in Vienna, today. However, Höger primarily focused on genre painting and specialized in the depiction of gallant genre scenes which were deeply inspired by Rococo. Only occasionally he also painted... However, Höger primarily focused on genre painting and specialized in the depiction of gallant genre scenes which were deeply inspired by Rococo. Only occasionally he also painted contemporary scenes, as well as landscapes and biblical motifs. Höger was active in Vienna, but he must have visited the surrounding areas and villages many times. He died in 1930.(msc)
