Ángel María Cortellini was a Spanish painter who was known for his works of costumbrista themes and portraits. He was born to an Italian father and a woman from Cádiz. Cortellini began drawing in his native city and later trained under Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer in Seville. He traveled to northern Italy to collect views of cities and returned to Seville to complete his artistic training. Cortellini began drawing in his native city and later trained under Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer in Seville. He traveled to northern Italy to collect views of cities and returned to Seville to complete his artistic training. In 1847, he moved to Madrid where he won numerous awards and was appointed as a painter to the Royal Chamber. He painted numerous portraits of Isabella II and Francisco de Asís and was awarded the Gold Medal at the National Exhibition of 1866 for a portrait and another in 1871 for a historical theme. Cortellini began drawing in his native city and later trained under Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer in Seville. He traveled to northern Italy to collect views of cities and returned to Seville to complete his artistic training. In 1847, he moved to Madrid where he won numerous awards and was appointed as a painter to the Royal Chamber. His work is held in numerous private collections and institutions such as the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Romanticism in Madrid, and the Valencia Museum of Fine Arts.
