Charles Wesley Copeland was born on September 19, 1924 in Winona, Missouri. He was the youngest of 10 children born to John and Anna Copeland. Housing such a huge family with many grandchildren and cousins and in-laws, the Copeland family home became so well-known in Winona that when it was razed many years later, there was a photo and article in the local newspaper, "Winona Landmark to be Torn Down."
