When only seventeen years old he went to Tangier in the company of his father and Joseph Crawhall. He is known as an animal and bird painter, but also produced fine landscapes of his native Scotland, Egypt and Morocco. Born in Edinburgh the eldest son of Robert L. Alexander. He studied at the Royal Institution, Edinburgh, 1887-88, and later under Fremiet in Paris. When only seventeen years old he went to Tangier in the company of his father and Joseph Crawhall. He is known as an animal and bird painter, but also produced fine landscapes of his native Scotland, Egypt and Morocco.
