Ferdinand Spindel was born in 1913. He was an apprentice as a graphic artist at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen at Max Buchartz. Starting in 1947, he worked as a self-employed artist. In 1957, Spindel became a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund. In 1963, he joined the artist residence Halfmannshof in Gelsenkirchen.
