Although he was born and based in Cologne, Germany, Gottfried von Wedig and Georg Flegel, who is a generation older, are among the main representatives of Frankfurt still-life painting. Wedig first learned from his grandfather Bartholomäus Bruyn the Elder. J., in 1608 at the latest, he received the master's title. His main activity was portraiture, but from around 1630 he achieved true mastery with his still life in the tradition of Dutch meal pictures.
