Jan Victors was born in Amsterdam in 1619 and is believed to have studied in the workshop of Rembrandt van Rijn between circa 1637 and 1639. He was influenced by Rembrandt's circle, particularly Govaert Flinck, and also by Rembrandt's own master, Pieter Lastman.
