At the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Lefebvre studied under Léon Cogniet (1794-1880), the teacher of Laurens and Bonnat. Lefebvre's Death of Priam won the Prix de Rome in 1861, and he began a lifelong specialization in the female nude in 1866 with Nymph and Bacchus. The French government purchased La...
