Antonio Calderara (1903-1978) . In 1925 Antonio Calderara discontinued his engineering studies to devote himself to painting. As early as 1923 he had already had his first solo exhibition. Calderara was a self-taught artist, experimenting in different styles and genres until the early 1950s. He eventually found his favorite subject matter in the landscape of Lake Orta, where he lived for decades. Calderara was a self-taught artist, experimenting in different styles and genres until the early 1950s. He eventually found his favorite subject matter in the landscape of Lake Orta, where he lived for decades. In 1959 the artist created his first purely abstract painting and developed a geometric approach creating expressive compositions of flat squares, right angles and lines and only a few colors in the following years.
