Arthur Twells was a British artist born in Nottingham in 1921 who enjoyed widespread popularity and acclaim for his landscape scenes. He was granted a scholarship to Nottingham College of Art at the age of 11 where he left to work in textile design, before joining the Navy. It was during his service that he travelled to Derry in Ireland, a place he would later settle with his wife. It was during his service that he travelled to Derry in Ireland, a place he would later settle with his wife. Twells’ career in art really took off in the 1960s when he opened a studio at Shipquay Street. From there he exhibited regularly throughout Ireland and the UK. Arthur H. Twells died in 1996.
