Maurice Bouviolle was a French painter and writer who was born in 1893 and died in 1971. He was drawn to Algeria during his military service and was fascinated by the sites and daily life of the Sahel and the South. Bouviolle won the competition for the Abd-el-Tif villa prize in 1921 with his friend Jean Bouchaud. He was drawn to Algeria during his military service and was fascinated by the sites and daily life of the Sahel and the South. Bouviolle won the competition for the Abd-el-Tif villa prize in 1921 with his friend Jean Bouchaud. He received the great artistic prize of Algeria in 1931 and frequently exhibited his work, including his highly acclaimed Diorama on the seven cities of M'Zab in 1931 at the Colonial Exhibition. Some of his works are kept in the Museum of Fine Arts in Algiers.
