In 1941, they moved on to New York, where Soshana enrolled in the Washington Irving High School. In a painting class she met her later husband Beys Afroyim. Due to his membership in the Communist Party the couple left the US in 1948 and lived in Cuba for nine months, where Soshana held her first exhibition.
