Overlooking Monterey Bay toward Moss Landing. From a Central Valley collection. In 1950 Teague did a watercolor of fishermen unloading catch on a pier that looks like the pier pictured here. In 1969 he did a series of Cannery Row watercolors.

This painting was in the collection of John Halloran, curator of the Carmel Art Association for two decades beginning in 1953. It was likely a gift from Teague. It is a daring work of art – done as war began to break out in China and people fled the Japanese.

This is a moving and provocative painting. Teague captures the human condition of solitude and prayer through a procession where the figures are all facing away from the observer. The shadows of the buildings on the street are somber and reflective. The tones of the painting are very easy to observe and study.
