Illustrated: "Edgar Alwin Payne and his Work" published by Stendahl Art Galleries/1926; page 56, plate #39: "The cargo craft of the Venetian lakes are no less picturesque and paintable than the gondolas of the lagoons - and, indeed, offer the artist more color and more vaiety of form. Payne's flair for color led him to them again and again. In his No.10 the sails, of the usual light red and dull yellow, offer form that is almost monumental in its reach toward the greenish sky. The hulls of the boats are reflected in an interplay of greens and reds in the placid waters. Here is a color scheme that is at once rich, tender and luminous."
