Son of Catalan sculptor Richard Guino, best known for his work with Pierre Auguste Renoir, Michel Guino was introduced to sculpture at an early age in his father's studio. In 1943, he continued his training at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière before joining Marcel Gimond's studio at the École des Beaux-Arts. Here he met Albert Féraud, Philippe Hiquily and César. At the end of the Second World War, he joined the "Groupe d'Oppède" in Oppède-le-Vieux and began using stone, plaster and salvaged materials.
