Very early sharp depiction of the Pacific Northwest Frontier by Butman. This painting is done on an oval wood panel, which makes for a nice painting surface and glow to the picture. This painting has been exhibited extensively as part of the Phelan Collection of Early Western Art.
Wonderful early, abstract expressionist work by Close, done the year he completed his undergraduate studies Magna Cum Laude at the University of Washington (Seattle). This work is compositionally similar to that of Willem DeKooning, whom he admired, and the work of his UW art instructor Alden Mason. The globbing of paint is reminiscent of the impasto Hans Hofmann created on canvas. The provenance of this piece is directly from a friend of Close at the UW. Upon meeting DeKooning late in his life, Chuck Close quoted himself as saying "Its finally nice to meet someone who's painted more DeKoonings that I have".

Very sharp depiction of a fruit processing barn/factory probably in Central, WA. This is a classic, prime period Helder architectural painting.
This is a larger version of an Eastern Oregon Farm scene at twilight that I sold about six months ago. This one is 18x22 inches (the other one was 14x17) and framed in the original panel frame. This is a tight painting with a very nice surface. The sage brush and dappled back-lighting on the hills is wonderful...a prismatic rainbow of colors is created at the top of each hill by the sun being low on the horizon. Its truly a charming farm scene of the American West in the 20s. The windbreak created by the poplar trees dancing in the wind creates something of a dazzling green stage curtain popping the farmer's home in front and waiting to reveal the next scene behind it. The painting is out of a Bend, Oregon collection, and has never seen the market. This picture, I believe, is similar in location to the Wire on pg. 68 in 'The Pacific Northwest Landscape, A Painted History" by Harmon/Raban.
'From Goat Mountain' etching by Loggie just in. This is one of her most dramatic of the TREE etchings...and it's nice that its from '32, one of her best early dates. Incredible detail in this etching!
