Povorina, a member of the Hamburgischer Künstlerclub and the Hamburg secession. Since 1928 he was professor at the Cologne Werkkunstschule, dismissed by the Nazis in 1933. After the First World War, he co-founded the Hamburg Secession, and after the Second World War, he was the founding director of the Hamburg State Art School.
