In The Market – San Remo, Italy, Jane Peterson found an appealing subject among the age-old buildings surrounding quaint Piazza Eroi Sanremesi, with the bell tower of San Siro Cathedral, the oldest house of worship in the town, rising overhead.

Old hand-written label on reverse with Peterson's address of 1007 Fifth Avenue, N.Y.C. A painting with the same title of "Bridge of Sighs" and Peterson's Fifth Avenue address was exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1929. Most likely, this is the painting exhibited that year.

Arrangement with Irises and Poppies exemplifies Peterson’s fascination with color while working in the still life vein, and in this case, she seemed particularly absorbed with the range of possibility one can achieve through a very limited palette of yellow, green and white.
